We were contacted by a customer in Buckinghamshire who reported a significant drop (around 50%!) in their solar PV system’s energy production. During our initial diagnostic call-out, we identified a cable fault on the roof, likely caused by pest interference.
Scaffolding was erected to allow safe access to the array. On inspection, we found a broken cable and extensive damage to the MC4 connectors: 8 out of 16 showed signs of corrosion and degradation. To ensure system reliability and safety, we replaced all 16 MC4 ends and replaced all cabling that were showing signs of damage.
To prevent further pest-related damage, we installed a protective mesh around the array. We also carried out a full panel clean to remove a significant build-up of lichen, helping to maximise system performance.
