Solar panel maintenance and repairs for a science park in Cambridge.
EV Solar carried out inspection and testing of a 78.88kWp (kilowatt peak) solar array consisting of 272 panels at Cambridge Science Park, near Milton. The array is connected to two 3ph inverters which are shown in the image.
After detailed inspection we found faults on two strings of panels connected to one of the inverters and one string of panels connected to the other. Site management were unaware the system wasn’t producing as much power as it should have due to these faulty strings of panels. EV Solar repaired the faults and got the system back up and running to peak production again.
Large arrays of panels are wired in rows of approx. twenty panels known as strings. In the photo we are using a clamp meter to test the electrical current flowing through one of the eight strings connected to the inverter. The faults found on this job indicated no current flowing in strings 1 and 3 out of eight on one inverter, and string number 6 of 8 on the other. EV Solar brought the system back online to optimal output.
Many people don’t realise that their solar isn’t producing until they speak to their electricity company to get generation meter readings for the last quarter and realise that the screen is blank, has a solid red light, or hasn’t been recoding kWh’s.
